Let's Get Spooky

Mummy Monday

We started this week off just right! Since Halloween is right around the corner, being spooky in the classrooms helps to get our kids in the Halloween spirit.

Each class grabbed a roll of toilet paper and during their craft time, they turned all the little ones into Mummies. All the kids loved it, including the little ones.

With children, it doesn’t take much but good energy. Our kids took the energy our teachers gave them and had a blast. After all the toilet paper was used, some children decided that having toilet paper everywhere would be even more fun.

We can’t wait to see what Halloween brings!

Safety is a Must!

Don’t Get Ready, Be Ready!

This week we continue to practice our drills and make sure we are always prepared for anything that may come our way. The drill we took on this week was our “Intruder Drill”. This drill has grown to be so important now since the over occurrence of school intruders/shootings have come to light. The safety of our little ones and our staff is very important.

Many people believe that there is no way of preventing this situation, and they are right. But what we can do is make sure we don’t leave “the door open” so that the intruder can walk in. We have to be prepared.

We take safety serious so all classrooms are prepared with plans in place and a way to prevent the intruder from just walking in. Each classroom is equipped with an Emergency Lockdown tool. This helps to keep the intruder on the other side of the door and away from our little ones. It looks simple, but is very powerful.

Sometimes we forget that there is danger outside of school/work that wants to make its way in. We must remember to protect our little ones ability to learn and to have fun.

Fire Safety!

Fire Safety Week!

This week at the Academy of Powell Place, we celebrated and organized Fire Safety. Throughout this week the teachers and children have indulged in multiple fire safety activities and procedures to ensure our safety is what come first.

Monday- Cards for Firefighters! We started the week making cards for our local Fire Department, Brentwood Fire Department. Many classes went over and beyond, while several classes kept it simple and sweet. One thing each class did was make sure the children had their “hands” in the card some way! This makes the cars extra special.

Tuesday- Dress like a Firefighter! Tuesday was a treat and a surprise at how many of our friends would love to be firefighters when they grow up! It was the cutest thing ever! Many of our friends were as simple as wearing t-shirts and several friends dressed from head to toes as firefighters. True heroes in the making if I should say so myself.

Wednesday- Draw Portraits of our Heroes! This activity created more evolved
thinkers in our Pre-K classrooms. Many of our friends were inspired by their parents and actually comical superheroes. It’s always impressive to see their minds go into deep thought.

Thursday- Fire Truck Visit! “The big red truck!” That’s how many friends described seeing the fire truck pull up to the front of the school for a visit. The Brentwood Fire Department made the day of many of our little friends. With demonstration, touch and feel objects and a walk through of the firetruck, our friends were overwhelmed with joy and happiness. Their eyes were engaged and ready to see as much as they could. During their visit, each class gave them their thank you cards. The firemen were just as impressed at the kids were. This was awesome.

Friday- Fire Drill! What a great way to end the week with an unexpected fire drill. There was no known time of the fire drill but everyone could feel it coming. Our time was unbelievable! I believe the teachers were on alert and knew exactly what to do! I felt proud.

This week was filled with so much joy and fun! With the theme that, “Not All Heroes Wear Capes!” this was bond to be a great week. I think many of us fail to realize, the teachers capes, never comes off! What an amazing week.

Fall Sensory Play

Fall Anyone?

I don’t think anyone was more ready for Fall like our little ones. To kick off Fall and the 1st Day of October, our teachers created Fall Sensory Play. The weather outside has not been Fall-like, so we gather bits of Fall, put them in a bucket, and our little friends felt the change in the atmosphere.

Fall brings so much joy to kids. They get to watch our leaves change colors, experience a breeze occasionally, and no more sunscreen until next Summer. It’s better all the way around.

When it comes to Fall, it’s a different feeling than all our other season. The colors of Fall are more inviting, more loving, and brings out the smiles in everyone. This sensory play activities prepares our little ones and our teachers for a new way to warm our hearts and minds.

Parents, Fall fun doesn’t have to end here. Once your leaves began to pile up on your lawns, share some sensory pay time with your little one. They will love it, and so will you.
